joseph binder award 12

Two weeks ago the Joseph Binder award ceremony took place in Vienna. Thanks to my lousy immune system that week I had to stay in bed and missed the event (-_-) but at least I got to browse through the exhibition a couple of days later and pick up my bag of 'goodies', merit awards and the catalogues.

Below you can spot my 'Fingerprints' and 'Christmas Peace drawings' hanging on the walls of the designforum among all nominated and awarded entries - found this nearly perfect picture in the internet thanks to afraidofus.com.

The gold-winner in the category of Illustration is the stunning illustrated novella 'Adelbert von Chamissos' by Franziska Walther. If interested you can take a look at the full list here or pop by at the exhibition in the designforum Wien (Vienna) until the 16th of December.

je suis un geek

In November Thomas Olivri released this pretty geek-art book 'geek-art un anthologie' and I'm happy that my christmas-peace drawings are a part of it. It sold out on Amazon so quickly that I missed the chance to order a copy. (p_____n!) If you are in France you can get it at fnac as well as in comic book stores. More info on the facebookpage or geekart.net. I found this review on youtube where one can sneak a peak - I do not understand much thanks to my poor french but it looks great. Hope I can get my hands on a copy soon. (and hope it will sell so good that they just have to make an english version :)

Joseph Binder Award 2012 shortlist

Good News! The two entries I sent in got on the shortlist for a Joseph Binder Award and
the Christmas Peace drawings and fingerprints now have a merit award for sure which is already pretty great.
Just sent my confirmation mail for the event which will take place in a month in Vienna.
Because I was feeling 'gif.fy' the other day and to express my joy I made this happy face:

a good read

It's getting cold outside and the dawn knocks early on our heads but I kinda like that. For one it is a good excuse to stay indoors, snuggle up and do some proper comic reading. Or make a drawing, post some blabber and also do a bit of advertising for some peeps  O.o

In May a bunch of gorgeous animation drawing people released a comic anthology under the  name  Neufundland.  The topic is The meaning of Life and each story gives you def. sth. to smile and/or ponder about. Take a look at the beauty here on Sandra's blog and/or order here (hurry up!)
At the release party I got some really nice autograph-drawings into my copy and -behold- an Alfred drawing from Harald Siepermann into my ca. 25year old comic book like this one. many thanks again to Mr. Siepermann if he may stumble upon this... If you do not know who Alfred is (shame on you :) here I just found a short making of video of the whole Alfred story - in german/dutch subtitles.
Being a bit of a shy weirdo and  getting even weirder when meeting someone who's work I admire (and in this case since I was very little…) it was not easy to open my mouth.. Luckily I did get a little push and help there.

quick doodle from the next day...

Phew, must feel a bit exhibitionistic today to blurb that much out.. Anyways, awkward stuff aside, now to porn.

A month ago I've been to another release party and again lots of great drawings filed up the front pages of my freshly bought issue. Bettgeschichten is a compilation  of pornographic comics, from very sweet, witty, humorous stories to very graphic, hardcore wieners and splendid moistness depiction. If text is used it is in german... you can find out more here. But kids, adults only!

After the slightly surreal, sad but also warm (can't think of a better word right now...) 'Everything we miss', 'Some people' (which one can also read online) and the Hilda books Luke Pearson quickly became one of my favorite comic book artists (> tumblr site with work- and some nice inspiration-pics).
And a new Hilda adventure* just came out! Jippie.
*little side note - if someone who knows me (hello, lovely) is reading this and he/she might be looking for a b-day present… nudge-nudge..look no further. °=°

Good read and good evening

stepping outside

this fellow showed up a couple of days ago... last week's heatwave has probably gotten to me... :)

fox and bunnies

When I was sorting out files and updating portfolios last week I got caught up a little with foxes and bunnies and vector doodling... although I'd have enough on my plate. I also have a real life fox in my new neighbourhood who I often catch late at night hanging around the dustbin on the street across my window. So maybe he/she is to blame...
--- thinking of bringing him/her a sandwhich one day. Or I put a bunny in the trashcan... em of course a healthy, vegan tofu bunny rather... much better fit for the 'hood' as well... enough blabber some pictures...

He is my favourite:

- hello

 - love sucks

Logo design - KnowledgeFox

These foxes are part of a logo design process I did in December/January...

The logo is for a new company in the learning software business and a spin-off of the Research Studios Austria called KnowledgeFox. They asked me for a fox with the directive not to be sneaky nor furtive but cute, smart and inquisitive.

illustration series - future challenges

Earlier this year I was asked by ViF (Virtual Vehicle Competence Center), a research and development company in the automative industry to do a series of illustrations that depict the future challenges of production.
Together with several partner firms like BMW, Magna et al. and Universities of Technology in Austria and Germany they run a project and platform called FuturePLM that deals with the product lifecycle management in the year 2020, its possible occurring problems and their solutions (link).
First illustration up is the order followed by the challenges and last one showing the platform.

mmmm... picnic

This illustration was for a picnic promotion by the café Moser in Salzburg this spring and done for LOA Design Studio Salzburg. Food having fun in the sun :)

make make

Threadless is asking people to make a 'make'... so here is one made by my fingertips
and here are many more to browse through... and this is a really nice, inspiring TED talk by Jake Nickell http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mB2e4f1YhYw about threadless, its philosophy and making things out of love and joy. --- enjoy :)

now ISABOA aka Joe has to decide which one to put on the shirt..

not a very easterly post but anyway
happy egg eating!

Alles Gute zum 80er!

it is one of my uncles 80th birthday today!
and as he is the only relative above 50 who likes to use the internet - being an engineer and in general an analog and digital technology enthusiast- I thought I'll take advantage of that and upload a little greeting. (well, some others do use it - when mails are printed out for them or with special guidance :) cheers, paps! :)
So, happy 80th birthday from 80 birds, a worm and me!

Alles Gute zum 80er, lieber Onkel!

von 80 Vögeln, nem Wurm und mir

liebe Grüße,

schusch-i

threadless collab - luchadores/muscle men - sketch n doodles

for about a week I am doodling little muscle men every now and then for a threadless colab initiated by 'Isaboa' (Joe Carr) - check out the last one 'Monster Mash Collaboration of HORROR' here.
Really like the whole mass-collaboration-idea and also the theme for this one got me 'pumped'.

I thought an interaction between the fighters would be kinda nice... when I saw 'citizen riffersons' character this is
what happened:

gottcha! - quick digital sketch of a little 'sucker'

I really like it but I hope he doesn't virtually kick my butt for doing this!!!
...have mercy!

...some more sketches and doodles...
